Actually, I thought they were going to substitute the "older" novels like "Jungle of Hope", "The Pearl" and "The Return" into something MORE interesting but now they canceled it, dammit.
And what's more, the changed the WHOLE book of Selected Poems and Short Stories Form 4 into something completely different. Now they call it the Collection of Poems, Short Stories and Drama. Oh boy, why do I feel that the English literature is starting to transform into BM format... Puisi, Cerpen then Drama...
The changes are as follow:
POEMS: (6 Poems > 4 Poems)
Sonnet 18 by Willian Shakespeare > In the Midst of Hardship by Latiff Mohidin
si tenggang's homecoming by Muhammad Haji Salleh > He Had Such Quiet Eyes by Bibsy Soenharjo
There's Been a Death in the Opposite House by Emily Dickinson > Nature by H.D. Carberry
The Road Not Taken by Robert Frost > Are You Still Playing Your Flute by Zurinah Hassan
Monsoon History by Shirley Geok-lin Lim > (REMOVED)
If by Rudyard Kipling > (REMOVED)
SHORT STORIES: (5 Stories > 2 Stories)
The Lotus Eater by Somerset Maugham > QWERTYUIOP by Vivien Alcock
The Necklace by Guy de Maupassant > The Fruitcake Special by Frank Brennan
The Drover's Wife by Henry Lawson > (REMOVED)
The Sound Machine by Roald Dahl > (REMOVED)
Looking for a Rain God by Bessie Head > (REMOVED)
DRAMA: (0 Drama > 1 Drama)
(NONE) > Gulp and Gasp by John Townsend
So, in conclusion, the changed the amount of literature from 11 to 7, what a drastic fall it is. I hope they will add some more novels or literature or else this will make English lessons at school even boring than usual.
And I have a sample of the Drama, it's usage of Language Styles (A.K.A. "Gaya Bahasa") is simply.................... Outrageous, or should I say "Overused"
SAMPLE: From the Drama "Gulp and Gasp" by John Townsend
"
ROSE: This morning I was nobody but you have made me a somebody. I'm so happy.
PERCY: This morning I was nobody but you have made me a somebody. Now I have all I need.
CROUCH: Apart from your pants! This morning I was nobody... nothing has changed.
LORD SEPTIC: This morning I was somebody but you lot have made me a nobody. I'm sick to the back teeth of the lot of you. I'm really f...f...f...f...f...
CROUCH: Fat? Foolish? Flabby? Feeble? Flea-infested?
LORD SEPTIC: Shut your mouth, Crouch. Don't you think we've have enough 'F's for one night?
"
TIP: And in case you don't know, the protagonist for this story is PERCY and ROSE while the antagonists are LORD SEPTIC and his servant, CROUCH.
Now for the SAMPLE EXERCISE
1, Describe the mood of this scene. (See above)
2, How does the repetition of "This morning I was nobody but you have made me a somebody" enhance the mood in this scene?
Therefore, the only thing I can say about this addition to the novel is...... OMG! I wish they could do better than this!
To be continued?
Please update. thanks =)
